Knitted with two-way stretch for a streamlined finish, ponte’s easy to love and hardly needs ironing. Here’s how to keep it on flattering form.
No-fuss ponte is best washed on a gentle cycle at 30˚C, ideally with a colour-safe detergent. Turn your garment inside out before placing it in the drum – this will help keep its patterns bright and avoid bobbling.
Dry your ponte inside out, then ease it into shape – this helps to guard against pesky wrinkles, so there’s less ironing to be done later. Keep wet items away from direct sunlight or heat.
You can get most creases out by smoothing the fabric and letting it dry flat. If you need to iron your item, do it on the reverse to protect the colour(s), with the heat set at a maximum of 110˚C.
To help maintain its famously flattering shape, fold and store your ponte flat. As with all stretchy fabrics, hanging can lead to drooping and pointy shoulders. If your favourite dress does find its way on to a hanger, a quick wash will restore it to its former glory.
