January: the month to recover from 31 days of excessive consumption. Another mince pie? Go on then. Brandy butter? Sure, pass the port while you’re there. But once the last strain of Auld Lang Syne has been sung, a little moderation feels like a breath of fresh air. Be gone, cheese boards and sparkly jumpers. Find joy instead in clothes you’ll wear over and over (and over). Broadcaster Lauren Laverne shows us how she makes her style go the extra mile with the ever-versatile Isodora dress…

When I’m working…

‘I don’t really have an average working day because I do so many different things. I might be hosting Q&As, filming interviews or doing evening events, which call for something very dressy. I need an outfit that works for lots of different occasions, so everything in my wardrobe has to be really versatile. I need to feel comfortable so I can forget about what I’m wearing and just concentrate on doing my job. I want to feel like, “Great, I look good. I’m done.” I don’t need to think about it any further.’

I need an outfit that works for lots of different occasions, so everything in my wardrobe has to be really versatile.

At the weekend…

‘January can be quite bleak. It’s still really cold, so I try to keep things cosy for as long as possible.
I like the idea of wearing a rollneck under the Isodora dress – layering is everything at this time of year. Trainers are key for my weekend wardrobe because if I’m going out for dinner to my local pub or to a neighbourhood restaurant, I like to walk there. It’s nice to have that mix between comfy and casual, that midpoint between dressed up and dressed down.’

Sneakers are key for my weekend wardrobe. I like that mix between dressed up and dressed down.

For the evening…

‘I might be seeing friends, going out for dinner, going to the theatre or to gigs. I don’t like to be too dressed up, but I like to feel nice. I love this look – you can’t go wrong with a classic leather jacket. It goes with everything and is perfect for when you don’t want to wear a big coat – just add a bit of lippy and some statement shoes and you’re ready to go.’

Pair the Isodora with a leather jacket, statement shoes and a bit of lippy and you're ready to go.

It’s versatility in dress form…
