At Boden, along with creating stylish clothes, we feel it’s important to manage tax issues within the spirit as well as the letter of the law – always. Being trustworthy is one of our brand values and we are committed to paying our fair share of tax in each of the countries where we trade. We like to do things by the book, so our tax matters are managed through robust business processes and controls to ensure that we comply with the law and make tax returns, payments and any disclosures to the tax authorities accurately and on time. Our in-house numbers whizz, the CFO, is responsible for management of the Group tax affairs, but tax can be taxing so we use professional external tax advisors to obtain advice when needed. This tends to be where there is uncertainty in tax treatment or conflict between rules in different countries. To make sure everything runs like clockwork, our internal audit committee reviews the taxation policy twice a year and the compliance committee is updated on tax matters quarterly.
Sales / Use Tax
The amount of sales tax to be charged can depend on many factors, including the value and type of item purchased and the shipping destination. JP Boden Services Inc. will collect the sales/use tax on sales of taxable products shipped to destinations in Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin unless the sale of the product is exempt or the purchaser provides evidence that it isn't required to pay sales tax on such purchases.
JP Boden Services Inc. is not required to (and doesn't) collect sales or use tax on shipments to persons in states other than those listed above.
